The Piqua Shawnee tribe is indigenous to north America and also a Algonquian-speaking tribe. The native Americans during the colonial times became a semi-migratory nation. They mainly occupied Ohio valley that extends to Ohio and Kentucky to the east which stretches to Virginia, west Virginia, Pennsylvania and western Maryland that leads to south of Carolina and Alabama and Illinois in the united states and west Indiana.
The European-American pressure pushed them west where the Shawnee migrated to Kansas and Missouri and some were removed to the Indian territory that is Oklahoma, west of the river known as Mississippi river during the 1830s.
When the civil war was taking part in history it caused some of tribes not to remove themselves to Oklahoma. The federal recognized Shawnee tribes are three up to date this are; eastern Shawnee tribe of Oklahoma, absentee-Shawnee tribe of Oklahoma and Shawnee tribe despite it being made up of different historical and kingship groups.
Having not coming into contact with the Europeans, a patrilineal system was used by the Piqua Shawnee tribe, where by, the inheritance and descent went through parental lines. They called their government that was ruled by kings Sachema and with those that reign through succession and should be always on the mothers side. For instance, the children of the reigning king will not take up the mantle of being king, the mantle will go to his brother or if not to his sisters children, for the cannot be a female ruler.
They do not want their issue become spurious that’s why they have such rules put in their government. There are five divisions in the Piqua Shawnee tribe, this are Hathawekela, Mekoche, Pekoni, Chillicothe and Kispoko. According to its kingship the Shawnee tribe is divided into six clans in addition to the five division. Every clan had a purpose in the overall confederacy and showed spiritual value. All the six groups are common to the five divisions of the Shawnee tribe and every Shawnee is supposed to be in a name or clan.

the primary village was named after the division and it was where the chief of the division lived. There were specific roles played by the Piqua Shawnee clans and divisions for the entire tribe.
As the Europeans started putting down the records about the Shawnee tribe, their social traditions had already started to fade.
